I've been to Maya's more than once with positive and negative experiences. The first visit was with my family, and the food and service were both very good. I had the Molcajete (named after the dish in which the meat is served, but essentially fajitas) and it was excellent. Great flavors and good portion size. The appetizer sampler was also very flavorful and had a good variety. The chips and salsa, served to all patrons, are just OK. The chips are thick and didn't taste very fresh. They offer two salsas. One is salsa verde (green) with a lime and pepper flavor. It is not spicy. The other is their "hot" salsa, but it's thin and absent of any substantial flavor or heat. You'll find better salsa at many of the other local Mexican restaurants. My second visit was with my coworkers. I ordered a "macho burrito," half of which is covered in cheddar cheese. After I took the first bite, I noticed that the cheese was sour. I asked my coworkers and they agreed. I notified the waitress, with whom I had a language barrier, and eventually I was able to explain to her that el queso es mal. She graciously took the plates with the offensive cheese from the table and placed them on the adjacent table (was it too busy in the back?). She asked us if I wanted anything else, but I declined. When my check came (without the bad meal, thankfully), I was also given a gift check. That was a nice gesture (and evidence to me that the cheese was indeed bad). I appreciate the effort. Will I return? Possibly. There are half a dozen Mexican places nearby and, for a quick lunch, this isn't my first choice. For dinner, it's not too bad, just ask for the queso bueno.

Called and got food to-go. Food was not hot and was soggy, but did have flavor. And they charged us $.50 each for our to-go container! You'll charge $15 for a $10 max meal, and then charge for it to go? What a joke. I'll never be back!

Been there twice. Slow service. So so good. Kinda pricey nothing special. Back to taco truck for me

If you like Mexican food and want decent Mexican food (not talking about Chipotle, Moe's, or Tijuana Flats) then give Maya's a try. This was the second time I've come to eat here. Again, the traffic was slow and the service has always been friendly and honest as I had remembered them the first time. Colorful plates as usual which match the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant. Washrooms are decently well-kept. I ordered a different meal this time because I was curious to see if everything on their menu was worth having. Turns out not all of them are winners (but that's okay, there's always room for improvement, right?) For drinks, it is kind of a bummer if you don't drink alcohol, beer, and soda. The only thing that was available for me was unsweetened tea because their sweet tea came from the gun and if anyone has tried sweetened tea from the gun before, it is downright nasty! Also, the drinks are not listed on the food menu so it will be up to you to ask the server what kind of drinks they have to offer the day you go. The fiesta platter is always a great appetizer to start out with because you get an assortment of every little thing to taste test and it can feed about 4-6 people. Also, be cautious that the majority of their meals and some of the salads are served on VERY HOT plates so do not burn yourselves. The servers don't really mention about the hot plates but then again I suppose they expect their customers to have some common sense. I may sound harsh when I say this but it is my honest opinion, so please do not flame me for it; the salads and fajitas are pretty much the only entrees worth ordering here other than that, onward to the desserts! It was my first time trying flan, tres leches (3 milks in case you didn't know), and pina colada which are all on their dessert menu. Nothing personal, I have a sweet tooth but not for cake, especially not for Mexican dessert. All of these desserts are super sweet and the only one I would lean towards is the flan. The tres leches and pina colada come with a lot of whip cream on top of the cakes so if you don't like whip cream, ask to omit it altogether. The pina colada dessert does have alcohol blended inside the cake and it can be very strong in the aftertaste. All made from wheat ingredients and very heavy settling on the stomach. Overall, everything is alright. I love Mexican food but I cannot say Maya's Grill wins my heart but it may be a different and more enjoyable experience for you so it never hurts to give them a try. Well, there you go, good luck! ***Warning: Mexican foods contain wheat, corn, and oil so for those who do not have an iron stomach, be prepared or come prepared because you can have an unsettling tummy by the end of your meal.

Great food with very generous portions. The atmosphere is great. Unfortunately the service has been declining and was some of the worst I have experienced on the last visit. I hope they can get better experienced staff or I won't be back despite the great food.

Horrible Horrible Horrible, service stinks, food is overpriced ,we had a reservation for 8 when we all showed up we were told they gave our table away! They then put us in 2 separate booths!

Portions are large and the food had good flavor. Salsa was very good but the amount they gave was really small. They brought more when we asked for it. We had the fajitas with shrimp beef and chicken. Peppers and onions were crunchy not soggy. The sangria wasn't very good and a small carafe was $14.00 which is pretty pricey. Wait staff was okay not great. My 3 stars is because of that and the less than clean and shiny table. It was very busy but more time needs to be paid to the details.

We went on a Friday night around 7:30pm. When we walked in there was not a hostess where a hostess should be. We had to ask twice for the hostess. We were finally seated within 10 minutes and were immediately given chips and salsa. The salsa was good. It had a more tomato-ey base which I tend to enjoy. My mom also ordered the queso dip which was pretty good. All of us enjoyed margaritas but they were a little pricey at $6.25 a pop. I got the Temple Tacos which were also good. The tacos came with a slice of avocado on each taco. The onions and bell peppers could have used more cooking too. But overall it wasn't bad. My sister got chicken taquitos which she said were good too. Again, a little pricey at 2.50 per taquito. The service was sub-par. I know it was a busy night but it seemed like the waitress was running around like a chicken with her head cut off. I would come here again, maybe on a week night, but I would think twice about getting a margarita.

Two visits and two wonderful meals. The food here is authentic or as authentic as it gets. Courteous service.

Place has gone down hill, food is lacking in every way possible. Standard margarita is a total joke!!!

Im not sure what happened! We visit Florida four times each winter and Mayas had been our favorite place to eat out. We live in NH, so good mexican food is tough to come by at home. This year we came down the first time in December 2013 and headed to Mayas the first night. We were really disappointed. The food is not the same. The salsa is similar but something is off. The enchiladas that I loved taste like they used canned sauce and cheap cheese now. The refried beans are the same, taste like they are fresh from a can. The service has been good still (we have been back twice in 2014 so far). The servers are pleasant and prompt. What happened?? Did you sell to someone that is putting cost over quality? You have one more chance and we are done.

Really $$$$ for what you get. Drinks especially overpriced, $6.?? for a glass of lemon flavored ice cubes My husband had fish tacos, that were not edible, tasted like freezer burned fish. My friend and I had fajitas, they were just ok. Service was slow, and oh, the draught beer was flat. Is the a minus star category?

Been eating here since it first opened. Price fairly for large portions. Great place for a sit down authentic Mexican meal. This isn't cheap, fast food! Great salsa. I've never had a bad meal and have tried many items off the menu and also nightly specials. Eating there tonight!

The service was incredibly slow even though there weren't many people in the place. We actually had to flag someone down every time we wanted something. Our waitress was sweet, but totally aloof. The place was pretty clean, but when someone came to wipe down the table, she wiped it towards me. LOL. I don't think it was intentional, just a lack of experience. The food was good, but not especially memorable. I had the crab enchiladas. There wasn't much crab in them, so it was a lot of tortilla and sauce. Meh. Two adult plates, and one kid's plate set me back $50. A bit costly for what it is, but overall, A-ok.

This place is totally awesome. I drive all the way here from Stewart's to get Mexican food. It's authentic like what! Their burritos be like what!

Authentic Mexican but can't say I will be back. Service was lacking - walked by two servers before we were sat at a table and then had to ask for a menu and silverware for our table.

  • Joeee B.

Really great enchiladas and refried beans, Nice atmosphere and decent service but I have also had bad service, being ignored or way too slow. Don't order cocktails at the table they are watered down- it's a waste of your hard earned money. Try their Sangria, can't water that down ( or can they?) I eat here with friends about once a month. A little pricey for Mexican food, after all it's mostly veggies, rice, beans, cheese, not much meat but it's tasty and consistent.

Food ,service, prices all ok.But what the hell is it with 2 screaming out of control kids on both ends of the dining room.We purposely go out to dinner late so we don't have to deal with poor parenting skills. Felt bad for the staff. Felt worse for the other patron's.

  • Chris T.

I dont really have anything bad to say about this spot. Ive been here a good number of times now, and its always been pretty consistent. Theres been a few times where service is not as good as normal, when its slow and they seat you in the very back. The Macho Burrito (warrior burrito is same) is really good, as are there sun burned fajitas! They also have a really good queso dip thats not on the menu

  • Marcus F.

Everything costs $$. Ordered a fajita platter. They did not bring enough tortillas to eat even a third of the platter. When I asked for a few more flour wraps they informed me that I would have to pay for more. Service was sluggish. Drinks were small for the price, $6 for a borderline virgin margarita that is literally two sips because it's over packed with ice. I'll pass on this place in the future.

Good food. Ok service. Prices slightly above most. Second best in the area.

Yes, I'm a big fan. It's hard to find good Mexican near home! This place is always good and servers are friendly. Sometimes service can be slow, but usually it is consistently good. I love every dish I've ordered and my husband does as well. Their salsa is to die for. I could drink it!!

I've been going to Maya's at least a couple times a month since they opened. I have recommended this place to numerous friends. BUT not any more. Something has happened to this gem. The food used to taste fresh and wonderful. It now tastes frozen. The complimentary chips were my favorite, always warm and fresh. Not now. Tastes like cardboard. And the salsa now tastes store bought. But worst of all the service was horrendous. It wasn't busy. Only three tables of customers it was 4pm and plenty of staff as they were all standing right behind me laughing and talking, acting up. I had to ask several times for water but she kept forgetting. I had to ask for the tortillas(three times) that come with my dinner. I couldn't get anyone to bring my check. I had to walk up front to ask the group of employes sitting around, laughing etc for my check. Once it was brought couldn't get anyone to take my money. Waited 15 mins. No exaggeration. My server was a young lady who has worked there since it opened. I did notice she was quite attentive to the table across from me. Once they left I couldn't get her attention. What happened?? I used to love this place, the atmosphere and the food, the Last couple of times has been very disappointing. Don't think I'll go back for a while. I remember the owner worked very hard to open this place. I would really hate for it to go under because he's obviously not paying attention.

This has been one of my secret lunch spots for quite a while. You always get a warm welcome and a sincere good bye. The food is always good, service prompt and friendly. The food reminds me of my many visits to Mexico and brings back fond memories.

Friendly Staff and the Food was a Plus! For Palm City it's a Great addition! Friday nights are fun to cause they are open late and have a D.J.!

Convenient, but not that great. Food is only fair, more TexMex than Mexican. Won't go there again after two tries.

I was driving from Orlando to Miami and my kids were hungry so, we stopping Palm City . we saw Mayas and wow, the food , and service was incredible, yes like Cabos! the sangria was the best ever had, even better than Spain. It is too bad is so far away from Miami.

Flavor abounds and the menu is HUGE! This is a big restaurant with lots of space and a full bar. Vegetarians rejoice because we have our own section. Spinach enchiladas are scrumptious and the veg burrito is a fresh and flavorful option for those not looking to gorge themselves. There's also a vegetarian chimicanga, tostada salad, and chili rellenos. The margaritas are magnificent and the ambience is awesome. We used to be Pueblo Viejo diehards but this place is now our favorite.

This place is really a 2 1/2 star. The frozen margarita was great. With that said I'll be back for one or two of those! The food was average. My other half and I spilt the combo fajitas. The shrimp and chicken were good but lacked flavor and a little over cooked and the steak was just terrible. The chips and salsa were not good. The chips tasted like cardboard while the salsa tasted like spicy Old El Paso. The verde salsa was just disgusting! The rice was good and so was the guac. But since when does cheese not come with fajitas? Overall if your looking for Mexican food but not picky this is your place. Myself on the other hand is still longing for Pappasitos. The best Mexican food and margaritas I have had to date! Unfortunately, I don't get to Texas that often to get my fix! So, until then I'm still searching for a place that amazing. One last thing... I hate when Mexican restaurants fail to make fresh tortillas! Then pawn off Taco Bell quality tortillas!

I like their salsa and their asada burrito, I like that it is "pretty good" and I can get my enchiladas mole fix. Otherwise, service is almost always horribly slow to nonexistent.

Went here for dinner with my mom. Ordered nachos which were very disappointing. Not much taste. Margaritas were not very good either. Service started decent then faded at the end. Other choices in area that are better.

Came on a Sunday evening. Service was really slow, for now reason, but it was friendly. Food was good, nothing special. Good queso, which seems hard to come by!

  • Jill L.

I would say Mayas is just 'ok' and nothing special. Food is decent, but service is quite slow. I ordered a spinach quesadilla with no tomatoes and asked for double rice instead of beans. The food runner came out and my plate not only came with beans slopped right next to the quesadilla, but the quesadilla also had tomatoes. I would have asked for a new meal; however, the server was no where to be found for about 10 minutes. I was so hungry, so I opened up the quesadilla and did my best to pick out the tomatoes. When the server did finally check on us, he said 'oops they messed up your order. Do you want more rice?' This didn't resolve the problem. The rest of my party did enjoy their food and drinks, but again, nothing special. Rancho Chico up the street is better in my opinion.

I've been to Maya's at least 10 times and I've always had a positive experience there. The food is great - I get something different every time I've gone and it has always been excellent. Also, they bring you chips and salsa for free and will continue to bring more if you want it. The salsa is excellent and the chips are the right amount of crispy and salty. The servers are friendly - I've had several different servers and they have always been nice and friendly. I've never had a problem getting something when I needed it and they've always gotten all of our orders correct. The atmosphere is lovely - It's colorful inside and quaint. It has a good bit of Mexican flair inside with it's colors and there are lots of windows which bring in a lot of natural light. My only wish is that they had some more drink specials, but that will not keep me from going.

Texas guy...says...food is pretty good. However the service is slow and confusing. We ate at lunch....girl met us at the front door....seated us. The next group of people were right behind us waiting. We ordered our drinks...the waitress left....finally she came back by to seat the other people. They delivered chips and dip (good stuff) we waited....ate too many chips...needed a drink...none, no waiter....waited ate all the chips, wife choked. Yet another waitress came by wanted to take our drink order. We told her our drinks had been ordered, but we were ready to order our meal. Did order and waited, waited, etc. Confusing...never did know who was our waiter.

This place has some awesome food coming out of its kitchen. I ordered a chicken quesadilla for lunch and it was the best I ever had. The chick was marinated and served hot inside an cheesy quesadilla. Re fried beans with cheese, Spanish rice and guac/sour cream w/diced lettuce and tomato. OMG. I'll be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
